Judith has practised Speech and language Therapy since 1974. She trained at the School for the Study of Disorders of Human Communications in London when she was known as Judith Mellon. She gained a Masters Degree in Human Communication in 2001 at City University. For her dissertation, she studied the use of manual signing in children with severe learning difficulties. In 2002 she gained a diploma in Early Childhood Education at the School of Education in Cambridge. She has Stage 1 British Sign Language and is a qualified Signalong Trainer. She also achieved Qualified Teacher Status and worked as a teacher and therapist in a school for children with severe learning difficulties. She was also curriculum coordinator for alternative and augmentative communication (AAC).

Relevant Work Experience
2000-2006: Teacher, Therapist, AAC Curriculum Co-ordinator at St John’s Special School, Kempston, Bedfordshire. Staff training at St John’s and other outside agencies.
1988-2000: Specialist Speech and Language Therapist for special schools in North Bedfordshire, visiting St Margaret’s, Grey’s House, Grange, Sunnyside, St John’s, Rainbow and Sunnyside schools. Also worked with adults with learning disabilities in Bromham Hospital and in community homes.
1976-1988: Part-time Independent Speech and Language Therapist.
1975-1976: Generalist Speech and Language Therapist, Bedfordshire NHS Speech and Language Therapy service (schools, mainstream clinics and adults in Bedford South Wing Hospital).
1974-1975: Camden and Islington NHS Speech and Language Therapy service (special schools and mainstream clinics and nurseries).
